What is Silent Reflux?
Are you confused because your child has the symptoms of reflux, but isn't vomiting or spitting up? Have you heard the term silent reflux? Silent Reflux is caused by a child swallowing reflux material or by refluxing high, but not vomiting or spitting up. Silent Reflux can be even more harmful because the acidic reflux can cause more damage if it is not being vomited out of the body. It can continuously damage the esophagus and all other parts of the digestive tract that it contacts.
Silent Reflux can be much harder to diagnose and to recognize. You will see the reflux symptoms, minus the vomiting, and possibly notice your child swallowing or choking.
Silent Reflux is serious. It is not as obvious, so more damage can be done. You should contact your doctor right away and tell them that you suspect Silent Reflux.
There are many tests and medications that can be of help to your child with silent reflux. Please visit our forums to discuss this issue further!
